The University of Queensland community is saddened by the passing of former UQ academic leader, Dr Graham Francis de Gruchy. Dr De Gruchy was a leader in the field of architecture at UQ from the early 1960s through to the late 1980s, ultimately serving as Dean of the Faculty of Architecture from 1981 to 1989.

A comprehensive review of 132 longitudinal studies found higher screen use could exacerbate aggression, anxiety, attention difficulties and depression – in turn driving children to turn to screens as a coping mechanism.

Despite a bad reputation for their destructive abilities, termite ‘transplants’ may be necessary to give regenerated rainforests a boost. A multi-year study in the Daintree region led by visiting University of Queensland academic Dr Baptiste Wijas found termites were not thriving in former farmland replanted with rainforest species.
